Welcome to class Olympus!
We are a Key Stage 4 class, the teacher in our class is Mr Rogers and the teaching assistants are Mrs Galbraith, Mrs Grummet and Mr Saxon. There are 11 pupils in our class, we are a mix of year 10 and year 11 students.
Our curriculum is divided into academic studies on a Monday to Wednesday and Vocational and Creative Studies on a Thursday and Friday. We study for a range of AQA and OCR entry level qualifications as well as Arts Award, Duke of Edinburgh and ASDAN Bronze award.
We have also embedded Skills for Life into our curriculum, this is based around Communication, Team Work, Problem Solving, Self-Belief and Self-Management.We place equal emphasis on developing our academic as well as our social and vocational skills.
This term we have been working very hard in maths learning how to use mental maths to help us calculate money. We have also been working very hard on answering text based maths questions using the RUCSAC method. Our English topic has been sport and we have been writing and reading stories about lots of different kinds of sports. We have really enjoyed learning about the human body in science, we have even seen a real heart!
Our favourite days in the week are our Vocational Days, Thursday and Friday. On a Thursday we have been learning how to plan, film and edit a documentary about single use plastic, air pollution and recycling. We will be visiting Manchester city centre soon in order to film our documentary! On a Friday we have been working towards our planned Christmas musical within art, music and drama!
