Headteacher’s introduction
Dear families and visitors,
I am delighted to introduce myself as Head Teacher here at North Ridge High School.
I have had the pleasure of working alongside pupils at North Ridge for the last 10 years, watching them develop their social and independence skills as well as make excellent progress, all while having fun when learning. Pupils are put at the very centre of everything we do; ensuring they are happy, feel safe and are settled in school. For me, one of the best parts of the school day is greeting pupils coming into school, seeing them excited to come in to learn new things and see their friends.

We strive to “make every minute count”, giving the very best educational experience here at North Ridge and getting pupils ready for when they eventually leave us as a young adult.
At North Ridge, all pupils have additional needs with an EHCP plan in place. Their primary need is ‘learning disability’, however there are a wide range of other needs that pupils may have within the school that staff are able to support. Dependant on the need and age of the pupils, they will be within one of four departments: KS3, KS4, KS5 or ‘structured’. To find out more about the different learning styles and needs for each department please see the class pages on our website.
There are two sites for our school:
-North Ridge main site based in Blackley on Alworth Road. Pupils range from year 7 to 6th form.
-North Ridge HUB based on Crescent Road. This is for 6th form pupils only.
We are also extremely fortunate and proud of our businesses: Second Hand Made, Cup & Cake and Plot to Plate. Our pupils showcase their amazing skills and demonstrate equality & diversity in the workplace. We were recently recognised in the Jamie Oliver Awards and won first prize for sustainability within our businesses.
I look forward to the new academic year; welcoming back our returning pupils but also new pupils and their families.
Kind regards
S.Johnson
